Presidents Message

Welcome to season 2011. This is looking to be a great year for the Willetton Junior Football Club. Fielding  8 teams  from Year 4’s to 17’s, with Steve Schleicher coaching his boys for the last time this season, having taken the team from 9’s right through to their final year of junior football. What an achievement.

This year there has seen a record number registering for Auskick, all thanks to the great programme run by Kevin Lange and his dedicated team of Parents. The great thing about Auskick is, there is no cut off date for registration, so new Auskickers are always welcome down on a Sunday morning.

Of course we wouldn’t be a functioning club if we didn’t have the terrific support of our sponsors. They provide us with the jumpers on the field, equipment to train with, padding for our goal posts, first aid kits for our coaching bags and the most important communication tool – the update of our website. I encourage all our supporters to get behind the sponsors and utilise their businesses.

Our sponsors are:

  • Vantage Key Consulting
  • Lightstorm International
  • PowerPlay Sports
  • Signature Custom Homes
  • Perth Tree Service
  • Golden State Plumbing & Gas
  • Select Solutions (for your bathroom/kitchen renovation)
  • Wild West Hyundai
  • Summit Fertilizer
  • Goodyear Autocare (Willetton)
  • RMS Bird Cameron
  • Willetton Amateur Football Club

Season 2011 sees Willetton Junior Football Club turning 40!

From humble beginnings back in 1971, to being the mighty Willetton Blues in 2011, we have certainly come a long way. A 40th Anniversary event will be held at the end of July. More details will follow.

Parent involvement is what the club is all about. We would encourage as much Parent support as possible, from cheering on the sidelines you helped to set up, cooking sausages or making a cup of tea in the canteen , for goal umpiring, to joining the committee and helping guide the club into the future. Every bit of help from you, makes this club a success.

A special mention and thankyou to the entire Willetton Junior Football Club committee, they all deserve our support and encouragement for getting the season up and running.

I hope you all have a terrific 2011 and look forward to seeing you all at the games throughout the season.

Your President
Glenn Hunter

Message FROM RETIRING PRESIDENT 2010 - MICK McGINTY

The Willetton Junior Football Club has had a stellar season 2010 following on from being awarded East Fremantle District Football Development Council Champion Club 2009. This year we fielded 9 teams in ages Year 4, Year 5, 11’s, 12’s (two teams), 13’s, 14’s, 16’s, and 17’s. The club has 240 registered players with this year’s Auskick numbers swelling to 61.

Our senior teams from 13’s to 17’s have been playing very competitive and exciting football all the season with the 13’s, 14’s and 17’s all participating in this year’s final series and the 16s finishing just out of the top four.

Our younger teams up to 12’s continue to participate and represent the Club well. Although scores are not kept, sources tell me that Willetton will soon see some extraordinarily talent gracing our fields. Congratulations to our Auskick co-ordinator Kevin Lange, all his helpers, and his teams of mighty ants for another great fun-filled season. Parent involvement has been excellent. Well done all.

Congratulations to all Willetton players involved with the East Fremantle development and Colts squads. Use this opportunity to develop your football skills and knowledge, and enjoy the experience.

The Club is now in a very strong financial position and is well placed to look at upgrading facilities at the Burrendah south oval; clubrooms in which to build a community and preserve an history which is the Willetton Junior Football Club.

Special thanks to our True Blues Supporters VantageKey Consulting and Light Storm International for their ongoing generous support of the Club.

Also thanks to our growing list of Blues Supporters including PowerPlay Sports, Perth Tree Service, Golden State Gas & Plumbing, Select Solutions (Tiles, Bathrooms, Kitchens), Wild West Hyundai, Summit Fertilizers, Signature Custom Homes and CJ Bennett as well as our Willo Supporters RSM Bird Cameron, Chicken Treat, Bunnings (Willetton), Bousfields All Sports Trophies and Goodyear Autocare (Willetton) for their support which helps us provide the best facilities, equipment, jumpers and club attire. Please support them.

Once again thanks to Greg Harrison and Simon Smith for ensuring the oval marking has been in top condition. Special thanks Doug and Kerryn Homewood who have done a terrific job of running the canteen. Thanks also to Jim Grace, President of the Willetton Amateur Football Club for their support during the year.

Goodbye to our 17s players who now move on from junior football. Over the years you’ve done us proud. Always remember where you came from and those who helped you along the way. Good luck with whatever your future holds and the many directions it will take you.

Finally, with the imminent end to my involvement in junior football as Auskick co-ordinator, coach, President and team runner, I would like to thank the WJFC Committee Helen Hunter, Toni Brown, Andrew Muirson, Ray Pratley, Dee Broadmore, Gavin Bradshaw, Lisa Bolton, Rob Pennington, Con Regan, our coaches, managers and parents for your support and friendship over the past 12 seasons. It has been a privilege to have been part of the Willetton Junior Football Club and I will always wear our colours proudly. I look forward to watching many of our Willo boys continue to play amateurs, WAFL and AFL in the years to come.

All the best for the coming seasons.

Mick McGinty – President
