President's Message

2009 has been a very successful year for the Willetton Junior Football Club with teams fielded in Year 4, 10’s, 11’s (two teams), 13’s, 15’s, 16’s, and 17’s (two teams). Auskick numbers are now approaching 50.  Overall the club has around 250 players registered in all grades.

This year we have been extremely pleased to be ableto field two teams in the East Fremantle 17s competition. This is a credit to the respective coaches Murray Glaskin and Larry Harder. We wish all 17s players well and hope to see them continue their football in the WAFL or at the Willetton Amateur Football Club next year.

This has been a great season for our older age teams with our 13’s under Ross Kenna, 15’s under Steve Schleicher, 16’s under Gavin Brown and 17’s Navy team under Murray Glaskin all participating in finals. This continues the good work from last year and reflects the hard work of the players, coaches, managers and supporters of these teams.

The younger teams continue to participate and represent the Club well and the skills they have displayed during the season are nothing short of outstanding. Success was achieved in the end of year carnivals by teams in 11s and 12s. Congratulations to the Auskick teams and helpers for a great fun-filled season. Well done all.

At the end of season EF junior association count Willetton took away 3 fairest and best awards (13s Sam Rowlands, 15s Jake Schleicher and 17s Jason Johanneson) as well as the champion club award. A fantastic result for all those involved in the club.

Congratulations to all Willetton players involved with the East Fremantle development and Colts squads. This provides an opportunity to develop your football skills and knowledge, and enjoy the experience.

2009 also marks a defining year in the history of the Club with the launch of our new website at the start of the season - www.willettonjfc.com.au. The website was donated by VantageKey Consulting and has allowed us to commence the important task of gathering and preserving our history, especially through the 1980s and 90s.

The social night again proved to be a great success with the Gunshy Romeos showing that good rock and roll just gets better.

Our sponsors are a very important part of our club. Thanks to our True Blues Supporters VantageKey Consulting and Light Storm International for their significant contribution to the Club.

Special thanks to our Blues Supporters including PowerPlay Sports, Summit Fertilizers, Signature Custom Homes and CJ Bennett and well as our Willo Supporters RSM Bird Cameron, Chicken Treat, Goodyear Autocare (Willetton), and Healthways for their generous sponsorship.

Our appreciation goes to Greg Harrison and Simon Smith for taking on the important task of oval marking. This year taking on extra work having to mark both North and South ovals. Thanks to Tara Mitchell for a terrific job of running the canteen.

Thanks to Jim Grace, President of the Willetton Amateur Football Club for his support during the year and Malcolm Watson of Canning City FC for re-arranging their fixtures to accommodate our games at the Burrendah North oval.

Finally, I would like to thank the Committee, coaches, managers and parents for their contributions over the 2009 season. The magnificent work that you all put in is much appreciated and the rewards are there in the commitment and enjoyment shown by all our players.
