Willetton Junior Football Club becomes the founding member Club of the Willetton Sports Club.Β The first meeting of the WSC is conducted in July 1973 and during that first year Basketball, Cricket and Little Athletics join to boost numbers and ensure the combined sporting interests of the Willetton community are well represented.Β The Committee begins to use the leverage of the club’s membership to influence the Town of Canning decision making regarding the provision of sporting facilities in Willetton. Cricket is played at The Bill Cole Centre in Riverton and Basketball training is held at Rossmoyne High School with games being played at Woodford Park, Parkwood.
Our club becomes known as the Willetton Sports Club- Football Division which will eventually cover both the Juniors and the Seniors. WSC is responsible for the financial management of all clubs attached to them. A Junior Football subcommittee reports to WSC.

WSC President Ray Hagen is given approval to negotiate with Council and Developers with a view to securing 40 acres of land in Burrendah for a Sporting Complex. The area being considered is bushland in 1973 to the south of Willetton Reserve.
Willetton looks a little different in 1973.Β The stripy, patchy field near the middle of the picture is Willetton Reserve on Apsley Road, WJFC’s home ground until the mid 80s.
The triangle of bushland in the foreground is our current South Oval at Burrendah Reserve and the Burrendah Sports Precinct.
