2021
2021 President’s Report
After a shortened season in 2020 due to Covid, the Willetton Junior Football Club were looking forward to our 50th year being a normal season in 2021. It started with the wearing of masks on the first weekend and a lockdown in the middle of the season, but all-in-all, we got through virtually uninterrupted.
As a club, we fielded nine boys teams and three girls teams. our Year 1-12 boys team was again a successful merge with Rossmoyne Junior Football Club.
2021 was my first season as the President of the Willetton Junior Football Club. I am very proud of how our teams have played and conducted themselves, on and off the field, this season. You are a credit to yourselves, and have proven to be outstanding young men and women.
Our parents and supporters are also to be commended on how well you support your children and this club. We are always one of the best clubs in the Fremantle districts for parent and supporter behaviour.
We had a good number of new and old players in the Auskick grades this year, which boded well for the future of our club. Thanks to Mitch and his helpers for what appeared to be a fun-filled year of footy for our littlest members, I hope these young players of the future enjoyed the season, and remain with WJFC for their entire junior career.
If anyone had the pleasure of watching our girls teams in action, I am sure you would have been impressed with the level of skill and endeavour that these young ladies possess. I was lucky enough to witness some talent in action over the course of the season, and was very proud of the way the girls are keen and committed to getting better each year. I would like to pass on my congratulations to all of the coaches and volunteers involved in the development of these young female stars of the future.
I would like to celebrate and extend a huge thank you to all the volunteers in our club. Coaches, assistant coaches, managers, runners, first aiders and all others who giver to the club in some way-thank you! Without you, we cannot run the club.
To my committee, thank you for a successful year, which involved a few bumps in the road-but we got through. We purchased a new scoreboard and we will finally receive lighting and extension works to our facilities on the South Oval before the start of season 2022. This will provide us with more night training times, and also gives us a chance to play some Friday night footy at home. An enormous thank you to Natalie Fay for her tireless efforts in constantly pushing council to get these upgrades started.
Finally, congratulations to all the award winners for the 2021 season. We hope to finish the season with some premierships, with our Year 11/12 girls and our Year 10 boys straight through to their respective Grand Finals, and our Year 8 boys taking on a Preliminary Final. To all members, parents and supporters, please keep up ther fantastic support of the football club. I have enjoyed my role as President the season, and am looking forward to a big season in 2022.
Remember to always be Navy Blue.
Brendon Jones
